ABOUT US

Introduction

In 1953 Barney Taranto officially formed and opened Taranto Construction Company.  A veteran of WWII and stationed as a SeaBee in the Pacific, learned a lot of his trade over his time in the service.  After returning home and spending some time as a fire fighter on Staten Island, he decided to make an investment.  He bought a plot of land and built two houses.  After selling them he took the proceeds and bought more land. And with that, his construction company took off.

Barney, who was a resident of Staten Island since he was about 3 years old, took pride in developing a lot of neighborhoods on the south shore of Staten Island.  He was a proud producer of futures, giving people a good starting point for a life here.  On top of developing residential, he also built commercial.  Taking part in the development of most of the Staten Island Savings Banks on the island, as well as medical suites, strip malls, office buildings, and religious buildings.

Barney’s four sons (Dana, Cris, Brian, and Zane), who followed in their fathers’ footsteps and eventually took over the company, maintained the persistence and integrity that Barney had. Continuing the construction legacy since the inception of the company.

Today, Zane, Barney’s youngest son, and his son and nephew, Nick and Phil, continue the family name and company in the same spirit that was started over 70 years ago.  Specializing in all aspects of construction from project development, budgeting, estimating, project management, construction, and close out.

Residential Alterations and Development

Since its inception, Taranto has had a keen sense of what people want and need.  The original goal of Taranto was to produce a fair price, sturdy and well-built home.  A sort of “everything you need and nothing you don’t” mentality.  Our early homes provided great starter homes for young families retreating to Staten Island to seek refuge from the cityscapes of Brooklyn and Manhattan, even before the bridge.  The advent of suburbia on Staten Island.  Many of these homes still proudly reside with the same families who still love and appreciate them.

With more recent years and the reduction of buildable land on Staten Island, Taranto has taken a step back from housing developing. We concentrate more on client-based projects.  Anything from minor alterations from bathrooms and kitchens to roof raises, and in some cases, full demo and rebuild.

Working with architects, engineers, and designers, we help develop the perfect project for our clients.  By use of our long and extensive knowledge of building and construction we can help guide our clients along the way from design and concept to completion and close out.  Taranto has an “old school” mentality when it comes to running projects, however we are always looking to the future with new products and materials to help complete our clients’ dreams and meet their needs.

Commercial/Medical/Religious/Educational Development

Aside from our residential work, we have an extensive list of commercial work.  From shopping centers to medical facilities to religious churches and synagogues.  Our long history has educated us in ways to maneuver these large-scale products with ease and attend to any issues to eliminate them with little or no effect on the project.

Having close relationships with many medical professionals on Staten Island have provided us with insight to the needs and requirements for medical professional when working in these environments.  And working with all different professions in the medical industry have given us experience with everything from simple medical suite build outs to MRI magnet replacements and construction of facilities.

Touching on the religious establishments, Taranto has proudly built in the community and served so many over the years.  Gateway Cathedral, St. Joseph-St. Thomas, Holy Rosary, and the Oakwood Heights Community Church extension, just to name a few.  Every project coordinated and built to the quality and grandeur as expected by the parishioners.  Projects include new construction, extensions, as well as gymnasium renovations.
